PIVOT MOBILE APP

A New Way to Go Abroad

As part of my course work as a General Assembly UX Design Immersive cohort I was asked to design and build a custom app for one of my class mates, in two days.

Problem Statement

“Being spontaneous requires planning.”

Traveling and working abroad services are expensive and unreliable. Opportunities are often limited to retail jobs in “off the beaten path” locations, with no thought given to ones personal and professional development. Once you pay your fees, there is no assurance that your travel documents will be approved—and if they are, you are rarely given any insight into what your experience will be until you get there.

Concept Statement

“Unlike dreams, goals have plans.”

Pivot is a new way to research and secure travel-and-work abroad opportunities. We match industry leaders and leading brands with future talent, visionaries and creators—from anywhere in the world. Our technology leverages your interests, passions and existing social networks to curate once-in-a-lifetime experiences. We’ll guide you through all the red-tape and help you stay safe and secure while you make your pivot.

User Research & Business Analysis

Pavel and I met over Zoom for a few conversational interviews. I wanted to get a sense of what was important to him—his everyday life and travel routines.

PERSONA

Pavel is from a small town in Russia, He loves learning new skills and international travel. He enjoys creating life experiences while living and working abroad as a way of immersing himself in local culture whilst making friends. Known to pack his bags and jet away at a moment's notice, he’ll also spend months painstaking curating an ideal situation to foster his life goals.  He says, “Unlike dreams, goals have plans.” Recently he's set his sights on a career in tech and hopes to move to Cali. Throughout his journeys, he’s found that no matter how much research he does, he never really knows what he’s in for until he settles into a new place. This can be challenging and expensive when you consider the  amount of red tape and logistics involved in such an undertaking.

User Needs:

  1. A SOURCE OF TRUTH
Rather than using a bunch of different apps and needing to know the intricate google search terms, wouldn’t it be great if there was one place that could aggregate the info that Pavel needs?

  2. SPONTANEOUS + SAFE
With trusted information,  Pavel is  able to make a major life decision on a whim.

  3. REAL OPPORTUNITIES
We  curate options based on the user’s passion, interest, and skills,  and experiences, so Pavel  is set up for success.

PURPOSE STATEMENT

Pivot will help you figure out what you truly want to do with your life, how to get there and get it done!

Where to go next, how to get there and get it done?

  • Mitigate hours of research

  • Hand holding through the red tape

  • Ensuring support and safety  from start to finish

LANDSCAPE:
WHAT’S OUT THERE NOW?

Currently Pavel would have to use a series of apps along with intricate Google searches to create this experience for himself. So instead of looking at a single competitor, we reviewed a collection of comparative apps and took the best features and functions from each, while simultaneously identifying potential 3rd party integration partners.
